The owners of Tavis House, located at 1-6 Tavistock Place (previously occupied by AGE UK), are planning extensive demolition and reconstruction efforts on key sections of the building. These substantial demolition activities are scheduled to begin later this year or early in 2025. We anticipate that this major demolition and construction phase will cause significant disruptions over a period of up to two years, which will then be succeeded by an additional phase dedicated to internal fit-outs
In planning documents shared with Camden Council, the applicants claim to have carried out an in-depth consultation within the local community of Tavistock Place and surrounding Bloomsbury. It is our belief that this is not the case – we, as a Key Local Stakeholder, had no consultation regarding the proposed development and having been in contact with other residents and community groups, are aware that we are not alone in this.
We are asking local residents, businesses and stakeholders to contribute to a short survey to help us better understand the level of community engagement that the applicants have carried out, and whether those who live, work and spend time in the area have had a fair opportunity to share their thoughts on the impact this development may have on their lives.
We strongly believe that Tavistock Place has already endured a great deal of disruption over recent years. Since 2020, multiple construction projects have resulted in partial road closures, an influx of heavy goods vehicles, and increased noise and mess in our area. The prospect of enduring several more years of substantial disruption to our homes and businesses is a significant concern, and it is crucial that we, as a community, have the opportunity to voice our opinions and provide feedback.
Furthermore, it appears that the applicants have not conducted sufficient consultations with the community, which stands to be severely inconvenienced by the ongoing works and the long-term effects of the redevelopment. This expansion involves a building that lies within a historically and architecturally significant area, raising important considerations about its impact on our local heritage and daily lives.
We urge you to take just 2 minutes to complete our brief survey (community feedback questionnaire). The data collected from this survey will be presented to Camden Council. Our goal is to compel the applicants to engage properly with the community, allowing you adequate time to consider the impact of the proposed development and respond appropriately.
Please note, the current consultation window closes on May 31, 2024. It is crucial that we gather as many responses as possible, as quickly as possible, to ensure your voices are heard. Thank you for your prompt attention and participation.
